WHY BLACK FLAG?

"Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats."

 - H.L Mencken -

Now slitting throats sounds a bit extreme, but it has a deeper meaning, which I’ve used as a mantra for some time.
To me, the quote could be translated into saying that at certain times in your life, it’s time to knuckle down, do the hard work and put everything into your goals. Be that a race, a job interview or a really hard training session.

You know it’s not going to be pretty, but you put in the graft and reap the rewards on the other side of the discomfort.

I call these ‘black flag’ moments. It’s time to hoist the black flag.

This is the kind of attitude I want to be able to spread to others. We live life in a nice chilled relaxed state for 90% of the time…but when a job needs doing…we hoist the black flag. #HTBF

WHO AM I?

After growing up playing rugby, then an active military career, I took to triathlon in 2018 in order to get fit, lose weight and regain the confidence lost through letting myself slip into a sedentary lifestyle. The result was I lost 6 stone, completed Weymouth 70.3 and became thoroughly addicted to endurance sports.

This sparked a serious passion, which has since seen me progress to winning races and earning a qualification to represent Great Britain at the Standard Distance European Triathlon Championships in Poland. Alongside this, I regularly compete in cycling time trials, road races and ultra-running events.

As someone who has always trained alongside two jobs, two kids and a lot of other distractions, I know exactly what is required to thrive in Age Group Triathlon. I've developed methods to maximise your training and performance, whilst still keeping balance across all areas of your life.

I would love to show you how!
